Training 2.1: Exploring public health in international context In this training, students will explore public health in international context via a rapid review and plan for a needs and assets assessment with a priority population.
Training 2.2: Collaboration skills: Working in diverse teams In our Prevention and Health Bachelor programme, we place a strong emphasis on developing skills for collaborative teamwork, particularly within diverse and inclusive contexts. As part of this commitment, we have designed a special 2-hour training session to provide practical guidance on collaboration within different contexts. During this session, we will delve into the concepts of diversity and inclusivity, exploring how these factors impact teamwork dynamics. Additionally, we will address the vital issue of privilege and its role in shaping interactions within diverse teams. This discussion aims to foster self-awareness among students, encouraging reflection on individual privileges and how they influence collaborative experiences. Through a blend of theoretical insights and interactive exercises, you will gain valuable skills in intercultural competence and online collaboration. While there are no specific deliverables associated with this training, your active participation and attendance are essential to maximizing its benefits.
This session is just the beginning of our journey towards building a collaborative and culturally competent community. We encourage you to approach this training with an open mind, ready to learn and engage in meaningful discussions about diversity, privilege, and effective teamwork across cultural boundaries.
Training 2.3: Migration as a public health concernIn this module, we will dive into migration as a public health concern. In Training 2.3, you will receive a lecture on refugees and health, and visit an asylum seekers centre in Limburg. This visit will provide an insight into inequalities in health related to migration and it can be food for thought on ethical dilemmas in health (care) and migration. This visit will demonstrate how globalization and health care interact, and how migration can impact health care provision. It also illuminates differences between health care in the Netherlands and elsewhere. Additionally, as part of this training, writer Alejandra Ortiz will visit our university to talk about her experiences as transgender woman from Latin America seeking asylum in the Netherlands.
